Winter Break and iPhone Usage...

I have 5 days before my Winter Break. This is a rough time of year to be a teacher. Students are tired. They are excited that the break is close and want it to begin. Teachers are tired. They too are excited that a break is close and also want it to begin. As this Winter Break approaches I thought it would be interesting to pause for a moment and see how my thoughts last year compare to what I am thinking about this year. This time last year I was enjoying an unexpected snow day due to icy road conditions. That’s funny because if yesterday’s temperature would have been about 5 degrees colder...I would have been home enjoying a day off as it rained all day and did not get out of the low 30’s.This time last year found me thinking about my iPhone XR set up and what I could be doing with it to make things “healthier” for me.I have not altered my set up since then with the exception of adding a few shortcuts to my second screen. I did try to reduce the brightness of the phone a few weeks back to see how that impacted daily use. The result was not meaningful to me in any way measurable so I increased it just a bit recently.I continue to be happy with the overall set up...along with how I am using the self-care apps I’ve written about several times here. Their daily re-mind=ers help keep me mindful.I have noticed over the last few weeks that I have been looking at email apps. I have no idea why as it has been over year since I have taken email off of my phone. What do I think I am missing? Each time I look I remind myself of how nice it has been and how less anxious I am NOT to have email on my phone. Finally, I’m looking forward to listening to the latest episode of Cortex as CGP Grey and Myke Hurley will be discussing “the state of the apps for 2020.” Their conversations about how they are use their devices has been an inspiration to me in that it forces me to look at my own device usage.
