MORE TIME thinking about the FLOATING KEYBOARD
I want to spend more time thinking about using the Floating Keyboard as a tool to get "serious" writing done. I've written about how, at least to me, that this mode of writing feels more casual, dare I say, effemeral when compared to using the Magic Keyboard. I wondered, after deciding to use the Floating Keyboard to write this post, if I would feel compelled to put the iPad Pro back into the Magic Keyboard to touch things up?
SPOILER ALERT: That last sentence was “touched up” while using the Magic Keyboard.
I generated the ideas for this post while using the Floating Keyboard and the full touchscreen keyboard. It started from a free writing session I time track called, Just Writing.
One thing that happened 1/2 way through the experience was that I had to transition back to the full touchscreen keyboard. This was due to the fact that the Floating Keyboard would disappear from time to time, especially when I wanted to move the cursor to a new location in the post. That was frustrating.
One thing I was pretty impressed with was how accurate the swiping (or sliding) with my 2nd Generation Apple Pencil was. I still felt like I needed to keep an eye on spelling while I swiped. For example, in that last sentence, I had to go back and fix two words.
Overall, I would say that the experience of using the Floating Keyboard and full touchscreen keyboard, to get "serious" writing done, was cumbersome. I plan on continuing to use the Magic Keyboard to get “serious” writing done…like I just did…to write this sentence.
