Beta 5 Paper cut healed by Beta 6
I've been running the iOS 15 public beta since the day it became available to "psuedo-nerds" like me. One of the the things I was looking most forward to included new features that would allow me to play around with Shortcuts, Focus Modes, and Watch faces. I've created several Shortcuts and automations that change my Watch faces; some of them time based, others Focus Mode based. Beta 5 of iOS 15 broke all of that. The day I downloaded beta 5 I knew something was wrong. I checked through each Shortcut and automation that included Watch faces to change. Each one had a very weird message as seen in this screenshot...
The "Set Watch Face" action had literally disappeared. I'd love to ask someone at Apple why this happened. Remember, I'm a "pseudo-nerd" so the first thing I tried to do was click the link, seen in the screenshot above, that prompts the user to "View in App Store." When I couldn't get that link to work I went to the App Store "manually" to look for these supposed apps that might help me out; nothing. Then, I contacted Apple Support. The representative was very nice but did not seem to have any knowledge of what I was experiencing. I even told the "rep" that I was on the public beta. After taking me through the usual fixes the only other option was to have an actual phone conversation with another, more specialized representative. I wasn't able to take that call so I declined and said I would attempt to call when I could. I never made that call and...turns out...didn't have to.
As of this writing beta 6 for iOS 15, and beta 5 for watchOS are out. I've downloaded both and...wait for it...my "paper cut" has been healed. The "Set Watch Face" action is back and my Shortcuts and automations are working again. Funny thing is...I deleted all of the Shortcuts and automations that were related to my "paper cut" prior to the beta 6 release. I had resigned myself to the fact that maybe that functionality was taken away for good. So, I had to recreate the Shortcuts and automations after testing out whether or not the "Set Watch Face" action had in fact come back. Remember, I'm a "pseudo-nerd."
