What I'm Watching: Two Dudes and a Treasure
Just recently I started watching a very interesting documentary series with my wife titled: Lost Relics of the Knights Templar. The show features two multi-millionaire treasure hunters Carl Cookson and Hamilton White. The premise; they are out to validate the worth and importance of a hoard of treasure they have accumulated that is allegedly associated with the legendary Knights Templar. We are only 4 episodes into the first season but I am here to say that I am hooked!
The knowledge both of these men have about the Knights Templar is encyclopeidic. The passion they bring to the quest is contagious. I love watching them traverse all over Europe and the Middle East, in exotic sports cars, to equally exotic locations, all to bring legitimacy to the value and historical significance of what they have been able to secure over time. Along the way they seek out as well as attract others that, like themselves, are just as interested in the hoard and the potential impact it could have on history. One such person is author and historian Dan Jones.
Jones wrote the book: The Templars, which I bought after watching the fourth episode. Jones is an expert on the time period and the Knights Templar and watching him handle items in Cookson and White's hoard is almost as entertaining as watching Cookson and White speed down a scenic countryside to their next exotic location; he's like a kid in a candy store! It is my thinking that Jones' book will, over time, do one of two things for me; either it will serve as an annotation to the TV series or the series will become an interesting side note to the book. Either way, I can't wait to watch the next episode and get my hands on the book!
