SonoPhone and SonoPad: Amazing Third Party alternatives to the Sonos app
The Struggle with the Sonos App
If you own a Sonos device, you have undoubtedly have had to wrestle with the Sonos app’s clunky interface and frustrating latency. I own a Sonos Play 3 speaker. Since the Play 3 is an older device and does not support AirPlay, I have to rely on an app to control my speaker. The Sonos app’s volume control is glacially laggy and, if you like to listen to podcasts, you are subject to scrubbing (adjusting playback position) if you move from listening on device to your Sonos speaker and back to your device from the speaker. I have struggled with both problems for months and have wondered if there is any way to enhance my experience with my Play 3 speaker.
Enter SonoPhone and SonoPad
I have found hope in the form of two, third party apps I found in the App Store. The first is SonoPhone for iPhone and its “brother,” SonoPad for iPad. Each costs $3.99 and I’m here to tell you that they are worth the investment.
Both of these apps have excellent volume control with NO, I repeat NO latency. That in and of itself is worth the $3.99 price tag. It gets better. If you listen to podcasts you will no longer need to scrub to sync. Both apps sync from device to speaker and back again; amazing. For instance, if I am listening to a podcast on my iPhone and want to switch to my Play 3 speaker, I can do this seamlessly and smoothly without losing my place either way. I actually found this out accidentally. I went to scrub a podcast from my iPhone to my Play 3 when I realized that SonoPhone had done it for me. To say that put me over the moon with this app would be an understatement. I was so impressed that I downloaded and paid for the iPad app.
If, like me, you’ve been suffering with the Sonos app’s clunkiness, I strongly recommend you consider SonoPhone and SonoPad; you won’t be disappointed.
