Fourth full week of Summer Break...My summer break has been amazing for many reasons! There were a number of things that made this week in particular one that I really enjoyed. I decided that for this fourth full week of break I would take a tour of local coffeehouses. On Monday I went to WaterBean Coffee, the uptown location. From a customer standpoint...it’s a great location. Not a lot of people frequent it at any given time. Both times I was here this week saw no more than 5 patrons at a time. Monday I literally had the place to myself as I sat and enjoyed my pour over and a pastry. Tuesday my friend Bert and I went to WaterBean for a bit in the afternoon to review the proposal for a book I am working on. While I enjoy the literal solitude one can experience at WaterBean I wanted a change of pace for my next stop on the tour.Wednesday saw me going to Queen City Grounds. This place is an independent coffeehouse and draws a totally different crowd than WaterBean. That’s a pretty funny fact given that each is within walking distance from the other. I feel old at WaterBean because the baristas are young enough to be my daughters. At QCG I feel old because most of the patrons could be my children. After ordering my cappuccino and muffin I ventured to the second floor. While up there I made a little small talk with a businessman who like me came up to get away from the “youngsters.” It's a pretty tricky thing getting up to the second floor with your hands full and a set of stairs that feel rather steep so I acknowledged the businessman’s effort in a joking way...he responded kindly! As my photo indicates you get an interesting view from the second floor. I saw traffic passing on the street below...more cars than pedestrians. My week long coffeehouse tour continued Thursday. This time it was Amelie's for a cup of coffee and a blueberry muffin.I spent the majority of my time there putting the finishing touches on the proposal I mentioned earlier in this post. I am really excited that I finally got off my butt and put this together! My friend Bert is a big reason that this project has been elevated and moved out the door! Now the waiting begins. When it is all said and done I can at least say that I sent the proposal out!My tour of coffeehouses ends this morning as I prepare to post to my blog. I chose to end the tour at my favorite place, my house! Before I sat down to write I had some breakfast. I decided that I wanted to try to replicate a tasty menu item from Queen City Grounds. They call it a Toats Jelly. Deconstructed it includes organic peanut butter, strawberry honey (I used strawberry jam and drizzled honey over mine), house granola (I got some really good stuff at Whole Foods) served on toasted multigrain wheat bread (I used whole wheat bread...again from Whole Foods). With a cup of Pink Lady coffee from dunx coffee I am officially ready to take on the day...after I post this of course!
