MORE LOVE shown to the Reminders app
The Reminders app got a pretty cool feature update that people on the iOS 17 beta and the iPadOS 17 beta can play around with right now; the ability to create columns. You can now create these columns within lists. Most of you know that I am a school teacher. When I became aware of this new feature I immediately took a look at my reminders, both recurring and single action, and created a location based column I’m calling Classroom because this is where I will perform the tasks that are currently included in the Reminders app. Here’s a pic taken from my 2021 11 inch iPad Pro.
Once columns are created you can move the reminders from one column to the other potentially building a Kanban/Trello-like system depending on the manner in which you name your columns. I could see myself creating such a system for reminders/tasks that are not recurring or single actions. The column view looks really nice on the iPad Pro and I could see myself using this on the weekends to check on things as I do not use my iPad Pro at school. I’m not sure I will use it on the iPhone due to the fact that you have to scroll left and right to see the columns you’ve created. Apple creates a default second column titled Others. I’m not sure how to get rid of it as there is no way to delete it like there is when you create your own columns.
Another cool feature that I am excited about is that you can now schedule a reminder to “remind” you early. The feature is called Early Reminder. I am testing this out this summer with a reminder I have set for early August to prepare my classroom for orientation. The reminder is set for August 8th but I have set an early reminder for the 6th.
The more Apple updates apps like the Reminders app with features like columns and being able to set early reminders the more I am inclined NOT to seek out third-party apps.
