Experimenting with ChatGPT Tasks…

Earlier this week, OpenAI rolled out a beta to ChatGPT- 4o which will enable users to create tasks. It’s only available at the Plus, Pro, and Team plans. I have been playing around with it for a few days. Here’s what I have done…

I set up a few reminders to test ChatGPT’s Tasks capabilities.

Note, users are able to get very granualar with this feature and if you want, you can edit the reminders/tasks, currently, on the Web version of ChatGPT.

Note to the Note, I did not know that there was a Web verison of ChatGPT until I started playing around with the Tasks feature.

Armed with all this new knowledge I logged in on the Web and added to the reminder that I wanted some prompts to explore being grateful along with the reminder. This morning I got an alert on my Lock Screen reminding me to write my Morning Pages. When I opened the alert I was presented with 15 different gratitude prompts to explore. This prompted me to go back into the reminder and edit that down to just 3. As I created different reminders and tasks yesterday I started to imagine a world where reminders/tasks such as this could replace some of what I am currently doing with the Shortcuts app.

I am doing a lot of reading, writing, and thinking about Stoic philosophy. A few weeks ago I created a Shortcut that pulls a Stoic quote from a website and presents it on my Homescreen when I initiate the Shortcut. I actually elicited ChatGPT’s help when creating the Shortcut. The Shortcut only has 2 actions and it took me about 10 minutes to figure out how to create it. Before creating the Shortcut I spent 10-15 minutes asking ChatGPT to help me its creation of my Shortcut which takes me up to 20-25 minutes of my time. Here is a pic of what I get when I initiate the Shortcut…

After creating the reminder to write my Morning Pages and get gratitude prompts I created this more complex reminder/task related to Stoic quotes with ChatGPT Tasks…by the way…this took less than a minute to type and I am basically getting the same result that my Shortcut gives me. Actually…I get a cleaner result via ChatGPT…as evidenced by the following two pics…

Note that my directions were slightly more complex/multi-step and ChatGPT Tasks followed the directions correctly. Check this out…

Now that I have this “hammer” I am excited to look for more “nails.”
