Things I’m Enjoying Winter 2023 Edition
Happy New Year to each of you! For those new to my blog, I like to write a seasonal post that focuses on things I am enjoying. It is my quasi-mental note to myself that I in fact have a very good life and should regularly slow down and remind myself of that which makes it a very good life.
Here are some things I am enjoying...
Making Playlists on Apple Music
Recently, I spent a few days creating some really cool playlists in Apple Music. In 2016, my wife took me to Desert Trip festival; a 3 day celebration of Classic Rock. When we got back from that once in a lifetime experience I vowed to myself to create playlists based on the set lists of each of 6 performances we attended. I am pleased to report that the playlists are completed and I am throughly enjoying them!
The Year of (MORE) Domesticality
I am way into the Theme System Journal ecosystem. I started my new Yearly theme (yes, I know I made the word up) a few weeks ago; the Year of (MORE) Domesticality. Basically, I am trying to spend more time thinking and doing things at home that make me happy as aposed to allowing thoughts about work to flood my mind. So far, my efforts have been adequate. One thing I am really enjoying is doing yoga with my wife via Apple Fitness +.
Like A Rolling Stone: A memoir
One thing I want to do more, while at home this year is read; both intellectual and leisurely reading. Jann Wenner, founder of Rolling Stone magazine, has a new book out. I bought it over the recent holiday break and am 25 chapters in. The origin story of how Wenner creates a magazine (and the amazing experiences, relationships, and rock -n- roll historical moments he literally falls into) gets me thinking; is there space for such a story to happen in the modern era? Reading about things like his relationships with Mick Jagger and Hunter S. Thompson is something I'm really enjoying right now!
Cancelling App Subscriptions
In an effort to create more mental silence, I recently went through my app subscriptions and cancelled 5 of them. Why? I just wasn't using the app or the service the app provides. Why am I enjoying this? Knowing that there are 5 less subscriptions I have laying around has taken a bit of digital weight off of my mind.
I am grateful for having the time to think about these things and strongly urge you to create space in your mind, if you already aren't doing so, to think about things you are enjoying!
