360 days with the Theme System Journal
By the time this post goes “live” I will have reached yet another milestone with the Theme System Journal; 360 days/posts. I’ve written a lot about this “thought technology” that Myke Hurley and CGP Grey have created. Please refer to my earlier posts that marked the 90, 180, and 270 day milestones or my very early posts when I first got the journal and was figuring out how it was going fit into my life. In this post I want to continue exploring what I’m getting out of my daily usage as well as how that usage is evolving.
What I’ve “Gained…”
Close readers of this blog know that my Yearly Theme currently is the Year of Gain. I can honestly state that I have “gained” legitimate peace of mind as a result of my daily practice writing in my TSJ. I usually write about 30 minutes before I go to bed, as a part of my wind down routine. Writing before I go to bed is very calming. Giving myself permission to reflect on the day using the TSJ feels as good for me as doing 20 minutes of yoga. I’ve also “gained” a better sense of myself as the TSJ provides me the opportunity to cultivate a positive internal narrative. I say this because of the manner in which I use the “Journal Pages.” Within these pages I write about things that I am happy about, thoughts about blogging, and what I’m looking forward to. So, even if I have not been nice to myself internally during the day the 4 to 7 minutes I spend nightly, in the TSJ, provide me time to be nice to myself.
How my usage is evolving…
My usage of the TSJ evolves as the creators experiment with what’s possible. Myke and Grey have introduced a new section to the second iteration of the TSJ. It’s located at the top of each page in between the date box and the page number. A nice rectangle big enough, for me, to write something fun I did or interesting that happened that day. Here are a few pictures of how I’m using that space.
Like the rest of the space on the “Journal Pages,” this rectangle allows my usage to evolve as it provides me space to further cultivate a sense of peace, calm, and positivity.
Final Thoughts…
I am “all in” with the TSJ and look forward to sharing more of my process and evolution in 90 days!
