Apple’s Mindfulness app and where it falls on my “spectrum” of mindfulness activity
Last week I wrote about how I thought Focus Mode, a new feature coming to iOS 15, might help me with my mental health. Somewhat related to Focus Mode, I read an interesting piece from 9TO5Mac about another feature that will be coming to watchOS 8 and iOS 15. Check that article out if you are interested in how it’s all going to work.
The interesting thing for me is how seamlessly I think these new features will be integrated it into my own “spectrum” of mindfulness activities.
That “spectrum” of mindfulness activities right now includes use an app called Breathe (not the Apple app) to “notify” me throughout the day via my Apple Watch with mindful quotes and prompts that allow me micro-moments of mindfulness. I’m also doing the same thing with the Due app; which is intended more to remind you to do things like, “Take the garbage out.” The cool thing about the Due app is that when you “ignore” a reminder, the app continues to bugs you, every 5 minutes, until you acknowledge the “task” and mark it complete. For longer meditations (mostly guided) I use the Insight Timer app.
What Apple is doing with the Mindfulness app will provide me an important balance within the “spectrum” of mindfulness activities I engage in daily. I see things like the new Reflect activity, along with the prospect of audio meditations coming to the Apple Watch, affording me extended versions of the micro-moments I’m getting from what I’ve created with Breathe and Due and the longer meditations I get from the Insight Timer app.
